The targets of the project
The main target of the “Biennale 2002” project coincided with the valorisation and the upgrading of the area, starting from the peculiarities of Carrara : the uniqueness of the quarries has always flown through sculpture, artistic/artisan workshops and the whole local culture. Carrara is indeed the only place on Earth that can offer visitors a wide range of different attractions in a pretty narrow area.
Thus the Biennial made possible for the whole municipal area and for its tourist vocation to benefit from an outright promotion with international echoes.
Not by chance the event was included in “Pic Urban 2 2001/2006” named “Carrara : a town for sculpturing” which aims to promote the urban sustainable development through the so called “ asse 2 : business and culture” and “ misura 2.2 : interventions improving the cultural resources”.
Including Biennial 2002 in URBAN II project, enabled the Municipality to plan a complex and articulated project composed by different sections (as the traditional exhibition, the making on the spot of great sculptors' works of art, the historic and actualized analysis of the role of Carrara-a town for sculpturing), which had been managed by the artists-managers, coordinated by the department of the chairman of cultural committee.
The seats of Biennial:
In order to pursue at best the targets indicated above, the Biennial 2002 was arrayed in many seats and places upon the municipal area.
