"The aim is to involve artist coming from lots of experiences in a “discovery trip” of marble considered as a new and dynamic material, as a support for different techniques of expression.
This idea is included on a wider aim to give Carrara its historical role of “Capital of the marble” and city of art and culture." |

The event will involve works of art characterised by linguistic and stylistic elements which can be translated on marble. Today, thanks to new technologies, the use of marble can be extended to different researches, also very far from the classical ones.
The marble has, in its DNA, an idea of resistance to the so-called “action of time”, and at present it can become, metaphorically, an island untouched by the erosion of time.
So, in our idea, marble is a new and dynamic material, assuming the “new” moving in the field of art.
Our objective is to involve artists thinking the planning, the perceptive aesthetic research, the work about the common memory as a basic element of art.
These components are a “trait d'union” which unifies artists coming from different experiences and studies (such as sculpture, painting, photography, installation, video, design, architecture), not necessarily using the marble as means of expression.
The participation consists of presenting and giving to City council a drawing or a project to be transferred on a page of marble measuring cm 200 x 150 x 3, which will be incised, also in colours, or elaborated with other techniques suggested by the artist. The slab will be polished and will be extracted from blocs of Marmo Ordinario or Bardiglio Nuvolato.
The birth of the project and its artistic and linguistic motivations will be presented from the artist to the public and to the students of the Academy of Fine Arts during specific workshops.
The works will be produced in two copies, one for the artist and the other for the public collection of the City Council.
The project will be supported with a catalogue, to be assigned to important publishers, pointing out the birth of the project and its artistic and linguistic motivations, biographic and bibliographic information about the artists.
